Extended family sessions are about more than getting everyone in one photo. They are a chance to document all of the relationships that make your family what it is, from grandparents and grandchildren to siblings, cousins, and the families within your family. We will start with everyone together before moving into all of the smaller groupings and combinations that matter most to you. Whether you want grandparents with all the grandkids, the cousins together, all the girls, all the boys, individual families, or portraits of each of the kids, we can make the session your own.
Sessions are approximately one hour and are relaxed, natural, and full of variety. As your family photographer, my goal is to make sure we capture the big picture while also giving you plenty of images that feel personal and meaningful. You do not have to come with a perfect list of every combination you want. We can talk through your family beforehand and make sure we leave room for all the photos you want to remember.
What to Expect at your Extended Family Session
With an extended family session, there is no need to choose just a few groupings and hope you captured everything that matters. We will begin with the larger group and then work our way through different combinations of family members. This might include the original family, individual families with their own children, grandparents with all the grandchildren, siblings together, cousins, and individual portraits of the kids.
I also deliver all of the final edited images from your session rather than limiting you to a set number. If an image turns out beautifully, you get it. That means you can walk away with a gallery filled with the people, relationships, and little moments that made your family session special, without having to narrow everything down to a handful of favorites.

Extended Family Photography FAQs
How long is an extended family photography session?
Extended family sessions are approximately one hour. We use that time to capture the full group as well as all of the smaller combinations you would like, while keeping the session relaxed and moving at a comfortable pace.
What groupings can we do during an extended family session?
Whatever combinations are meaningful to your family! We can photograph everyone together, individual families, grandparents with the grandkids, all the cousins, siblings, all the girls, all the boys, the original family, and individual portraits of the kids. We can plan your groupings ahead of time or figure them out together during the session.
Do we have to provide a list of every photo we want?
Not at all. It can be helpful to have an idea of the most important combinations beforehand, especially with a larger group, but I can also help guide you through the session. We will make sure we capture the big group and then work through the smaller groupings that make sense for your family.
What should we wear for extended family photos?
I recommend choosing outfits that coordinate without everyone wearing the exact same thing. Soft, neutral colors and timeless pieces tend to photograph beautifully, but the most important thing is that everyone feels comfortable and like themselves. I am happy to help with outfit ideas before your session.
How many photos will we receive?
You will receive all of the final edited images that turn out great from your session. I do not limit your gallery to a specific number of photos, so you do not have to choose between all of the different family combinations and moments we capture.
Is an extended family session right for our family?
